The Buffalo Sabres Sled Hockey organization extends a huge thanks to the employees of Ingram Micro for their fund-raising efforts and generosity following an event that raised $20,000 to benefit Buffalo Sled Hockey.

Ingram employees held a series of fund-raisers in their office, and also a benefit game against their Canadian coworkers as an additional fund-raiser on April 2 at Niagara University's Dwyer Arena.

The event also featured a sled hockey exhibition game between two Buffalo Sabres teams, as well as opportunities to try sled hockey.

A ‘Golden Opportunity’ To Try Sled Hockey

The Buffalo Sabres Sled Hockey organization will be hosting an open clinic for physically challenged males and femals ages 5 through adult to try out the sport of sled hockey. The event takes place May 1 at the Hockey Outlet Rink between 2 pm and 4 pm.

Interested individuals should show up at the rink, 3385 Niagara Falls Boulevard, North Tonawanda, NY. All sleds, sticks and helmets will be provided for your use. All that's required is to dress appropriately for the cool conditions of an ice rink. There is no charge, because Hockey Outlet is generously donating ice time for this event.

This event is a "golden" opporutnity because you will be able to try the sport under the guidance of the Buffalo area's five Paralympic champions as well as team coaches, who recently won the sled hockey gold medal at the Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.

There is no obligation for anyone to join; those who would like to participate further will be placed on a mailing list of potential players when the local Buffalo teams, which are grouped by age, resume play in the fall of 2010.

Sled hockey is for physically challenged individuals with mobility limitations, amputees, as well as able-bodied people with knee, leg or hip injuries that limit their participation in standard or "stand-up" hockey.  Sled hockey participants have found the sport to be a great source of physical fitness, socialization, as well as an opportunity to travel and compete in tournaments.

We hope to see you on May 1.
